The small central region of an atom in which almost all its mass and its positive charge are concentrated.
Revise: History of the Atomic ModelRutherford used the evidence to develop the nuclear model: almost all the atom’s mass and its positive charge are concentrated in a tiny central nucleus, while electrons occupy the space around it. Since most alpha particles encountered empty space, only a very small proportion came close enough to the nucleus to be strongly deflected.
- Revise: Subatomic Particles
The small central part of an atom that contains protons and neutrons and therefore has an overall positive charge.
- Revise: Atomic Size and Mass
The very small, central part of an atom that contains its protons and neutrons and almost all its mass.
