Revise: Separation TechniquesFractional distillation is useful for a mixture of miscible liquids with different boiling points, particularly when their boiling points are closer together. An ethanol–water mixture is an example. Unlike simple distillation, the apparatus has a fractionating column between the heated flask and the condenser.
