Revise: General Apparatus and Measurement TechniquesMany aqueous liquids form a curved surface called a meniscus. Read the bottom of this curve with your eye at the same height. Looking from above or below can shift the apparent reading along the scale; this is parallax error.

Revise: Apparatus and techniquesA measuring cylinder measures liquid volume in cm³: stand it upright and read the bottom of the meniscus at eye level. A gas syringe can measure the volume of gas produced in cm³; check that its connections are secure so that escaping gas does not make the reading too low.
