Specification 2.6 · Paper 1
Specification C2.1b · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher)
The interval from the temperature at which a sample first begins to melt to the temperature at which it has completely melted.
Revise: Melting Point AnalysisA close match, together with a narrow melting range, is evidence that the sample is pure.
If a question gives the temperature at which melting starts and finishes, quote the complete melting range rather than choosing only one value.
A melting point close to the known value is stronger evidence of purity when the melting range is also narrow.
