Revise: Uses of Graphite and DiamondWhen surfaces move against graphite, its layers can slide over one another and rub off. This helps the surfaces move more easily, so graphite can act as a lubricant. It is the weak forces between layers—not weak bonds between carbon atoms within a layer—that explain this use.
