Revise: Ionic Bonding MechanismThe electron transfer explains the formation of the ions; the attraction between the resulting ions is the bond.
A chemical change in which one reacting particle loses one or more electrons and another gains them.
Use the group number to find the ion charge before drawing any electron transfer: Group 1 → 1+, Group 2 → 2+, Group 6 → 2− and Group 7 → 1−.
Do not confuse proton transfer with electron transfer. A proton is and has positive charge; an electron has negative charge.
