Revise: Necessity of CrackingIn particular, demand for petrol is greater than the amount of the petrol fraction obtained by fractional distillation alone. Meanwhile, some larger hydrocarbons are less useful and less in demand.
Link your explanation to demand: fractional distillation alone does not produce enough petrol-range hydrocarbons to meet demand, so larger hydrocarbons are cracked into smaller, more useful molecules.
