Its strong carbon bonding and tube-shaped arrangement make it strong while adding little mass. Nanotubes could therefore help make composite or building materials stronger and lighter.

Revise: Properties and uses of nanoparticlesA carbon nanotube is a cylindrical fullerene with a very large length compared with its diameter. Its nanoscale diameter allows it to act as a molecular sieve: whether a particle can pass through depends on its size relative to the opening. Nanotubes may also be incorporated into other materials, producing strong, lightweight composites such as reinforced sports equipment.
Do not assume every nanoparticulate material has the same properties. Carbon nanotubes have a particular structure that gives them particular uses.
Do not assume every carbon structure conducts equally well: C₆₀ does not conduct electricity well, whereas graphene and carbon nanotubes can.
