Revise: Fullerenes and GrapheneBuckminsterfullerene, C₆₀, is a hollow, roughly spherical molecule made from 60 carbon atoms arranged in pentagons and hexagons, rather like the panels of a football. Each carbon atom forms three covalent bonds to neighbouring carbon atoms in the molecule.
Do not describe the covalent bonds within a C₆₀ molecule as weak. Its molecules are held to one another by weak intermolecular forces.
Distinguish a single C₆₀ molecule from graphene’s continuous sheet of bonded carbon atoms.
