Ammonium nitrate

Definition

The salt $\mathrm{NH_4NO_3}$ , used as a nitrogen-containing fertiliser.

Ammonium nitrate is soluble, so it remains in the aqueous reaction mixture. To obtain solid ammonium nitrate, water must be removed from the solution and the salt recovered as crystals.
