GCSE Biology · key term
The amount of crop or other agricultural product produced, often measured per unit area.
Used by Edexcel
Specification 4.13B · Paper 1
Revise: Agricultural SolutionsFarmers can increase the yield from land already being used, but a method that improves production may also cost money or affect other organisms. The useful question is not simply whether a method works, but how much food it helps produce and what its consequences are.
For each agricultural method, link the action to crop yield and then give a specific disadvantage; a list of methods alone does not explain the trade-offs.
When interpreting a yield graph, check the units and compare the size of any improvement with the environmental or practical costs.
