Revise: Xylem and phloemA xylem vessel is assembled from elongated vessel elements joined end to end. As these cells mature, they die and their end walls and contents are lost. The result is a long, continuous, hollow tube rather than a row of closed cells.
Do not say that xylem vessels are living cells. Their conducting cells are dead when mature, whereas phloem sieve tube elements and companion cells are living.
