Waist circumference divided by hip circumference, using the same unit for both measurements; it indicates how body fat is distributed.

Revise: Obesity, Malnutrition and Lifestyle FactorsBMI and waist-to-hip ratio answer different questions. BMI compares overall mass with height, whereas waist-to-hip ratio gives information about fat distribution.
Waist circumference divided by hip circumference, measured in the same unit; it gives an indication of fat stored around the abdomen.
For a waist-to-hip ratio, use both circumferences in the same unit; the units then cancel.
Treat BMI and waist-to-hip ratio as indicators of risk, not diagnoses. BMI can be raised by a large muscle mass as well as by excess body fat.
For waist-to-hip ratio, divide waist circumference by hip circumference using the same unit for both.
