Revise: Benefits and Risks of Stem CellsA proposed treatment therefore follows a general sequence: obtain suitable stem cells, encourage them to form the required cell type and transplant the cells into the patient. If the new cells survive, integrate with the surrounding tissue and work normally, they may restore some lost function. This aims to address the cellular cause of a condition rather than merely reducing its symptoms.
