The production of an embryo with the same genes as a patient so that embryonic stem cells can be obtained for medical treatment without rejection by that patient’s body.

Revise: Medical Uses and Therapeutic CloningIn therapeutic cloning, an embryo is produced with the same genes as the patient. Stem cells are taken from this embryo and can be made to differentiate into specialised cells for treatment.
When explaining the benefit of therapeutic cloning, state both that the embryo has the same genes as the patient and that its stem cells are therefore not rejected by the patient’s body.
