Revise: Understanding GeneticsReplication was important because obtaining similar patterns again provided independent support for his conclusions. The delay therefore illustrates how scientific understanding develops: a discovery may become convincing and meaningful only when it can be reproduced and connected with other evidence.
When explaining why Mendel's work was initially overlooked, connect the delay to the limited scientific understanding of chromosomes, genes and DNA, and to the later replication of his experiments.
If asked how a scientific theory develops, refer to evidence from many scientists, testing and replication—not simply the passage of time.
