Revise: Reflex ArcA reflex response is rapid and involuntary: it happens without a conscious decision. Reflexes can protect the body from harm. If a finger touches a dangerously hot object, for example, the hand begins to withdraw before the person has consciously considered what to do.

Instead, the nervous system can produce a reflex response: a rapid, automatic and involuntary response to a stimulus. Withdrawal from a hot object is protective; blinking can protect the eye from foreign material, while the pupil reflex limits the light entering the eye.
