Definition

The number of heartbeats felt at an artery in one minute, usually recorded in beats per minute.

The number of pulses felt in an artery in one minute, usually corresponding to the number of heartbeats.
OCR gives investigating the effect of exercise on pulse rate, ventilation rate and recovery as an example activity for PAG 6, Physiology, responses, respiration. It is an example rather than a compulsory fixed protocol: a centre may choose another suitable activity covering the required techniques.

Recovery time is measured from the end of exercise until the pulse returns to its resting level; the highest pulse rate is not the recovery time.

Keep pulse rate and recovery distinct: record the immediate change after exercise and then how quickly the pulse returns towards its resting value.
