Revise: Antibiotics and MedicinesA painkiller has a different role: it reduces symptoms such as pain but does not kill the pathogen. A patient with a bacterial infection might therefore receive an antibiotic to act on the bacteria and a painkiller to feel more comfortable while recovering.
