A bundle of sensory neurones that carries electrical impulses from the retina to the brain.
Revise: The eyeThe impulses leave the eye through the optic nerve, a bundle of sensory neurones connecting the retina to the brain. The brain processes and interprets this information to produce visual perception. Consequently, the retina detects light, the optic nerve transmits information, and the brain interprets it—these functions should not be confused.
The optic nerve carries electrical impulses to the brain; it does not carry light.
Do not say that the optic nerve carries light. It carries electrical impulses from the retina to the brain.
