Electron Arrangements and Excitation
What you need to know
Recall that electrons in an atom are arranged at different distances from the nucleus.
Understand that these electron arrangements may change with the absorption or emission of electromagnetic radiation.
Explain that inner electrons can be 'excited' when they absorb energy from radiation, rising to a higher energy level.
Describe how the absorbed energy is emitted as radiation when the electron loses it.
Define ionisation as the process occurring when outer electrons are lost from an atom.
