Component 2 Question 2: industries, audiences and contexts
Answering the Section A questions
What you need to know
The 10-mark question on media industries, audiences or contexts for the set television products, which may name the historical programme.
In each exam one of Questions 2 and 4 is on contexts and the other on industries or audiences.
The 2025 question on how crime dramas or sitcoms reflect their historical contexts, and the 2026 question on how convergence has changed the distribution of television dramas and sitcoms, which many candidates left out.
The basic facts examiners expect, such as which companies made and first broadcast each programme.
A question set out as Eduqas sets it, with its wording and marks, and a model answer with the band and mark an examiner would give and why, beside a weaker answer and what would lift it.
Sentence starters and a short checklist of the steps, for students aiming at Grade 4 and above.
The set products for 2027 and 2028 exams are the Vogue and GQ covers; the Man with the Golden Gun and No Time to Die posters; the Guardian of 18 January 2022 and the Sun of 1 January 2021 (2027 exams only), then the Guardian of 6 May 2025 and the Sun of 22 March 2025 (2028 exams); the Quality Street and NHS 111 adverts; the Sun, Desert Island Discs, No Time to Die and Fortnite for industries and audiences; Trigger Point with The Sweeney, or Man Like Mobeen or Modern Family with Friends; and Lizzo or Taylor Swift, Stormzy or Justin Bieber, and Rio or Waterfalls. This Girl Can, The Archers and Luther were last set for 2026 exams, so past questions on them are practice only.
Back readings of class, gender and ethnicity with specific evidence from the products, as the mark schemes reward.
