Component 1 Questions 3 and 4: industries and audiences
Answering the Section B questions
What you need to know
Section B's two stepped questions: Question 3 on media industries in one form and Question 4 on audiences in a different form, each moving from short recall items worth one to five marks to an explanation of about 12 marks referring to a set product.
How they are marked (AO1: knowledge and understanding of the framework), and the synoptic part, which rewards drawing on the whole course.
Recall items: give one answer when one is asked for, since listing several scores nothing.
Keeping industry and audience answers apart: Uses and Gratifications belongs in audience answers.
The 2025 and 2026 questions on the 007 website, Fortnite and The Sun website, with model answers and the mark an examiner would give each.
Timing: about 35 minutes for the section.
Sentence starters and a short checklist of the steps, for students aiming at Grade 4 and above.
