Pride and Prejudice exam question
What you need to know
How Eduqas's 19th-century prose question works: one essay on the novel studied, with an extract of about half a page to a page printed under the question, worth 40 marks for AO1, AO2 and AO3.
How to plan and write the essay, using Pride and Prejudice as the worked example, with a model answer and commentary.
A question set out as Eduqas sets it, with its wording and marks.
Component 2 Section B: closed book, about 45 minutes.
The extract is a starting point, not the task: the essay ranges across the beginning, middle and end of the novel through five or six key stages, each with a short quotation, and weaves context into the argument.
A model answer with the band and mark an examiner would give and why, and a Grade 5 and a Grade 8 paragraph side by side.
The Summer 2025 question: how Austen presents Darcy, and the ideas the mark scheme and examiners' report reward.
How to use the time and avoid the commonest mistakes: analysing only the extract, retelling, bolting context on, and referring to film versions.
