What you need to know
The two compulsory 20-mark writing tasks, such as a letter, an article, a review or a speech, each about 300 to 400 words, with a set purpose and audience.
How each is marked: 12 marks for AO5 (communication and organisation) and 8 for AO6 (vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation), and the paper's advice of 30 minutes on each task, about 5 minutes planning and 25 minutes writing.
A weaker and a stronger response to one task side by side, with the band and mark an examiner would give each for AO5 and AO6, and why.
