What you need to know
The 40-mark writing task: one title chosen from four, such as a story that begins or ends with given words, a one-word title or a time in your own life, written as a narrative or recount of about 450 to 600 words.
How it is marked: 24 marks for AO5 (communication and organisation) and 16 for AO6 (vocabulary, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation), why purely descriptive writing, poetry or a script cannot reach the top marks, and the paper's advice of about 10 minutes planning and 35 minutes writing.
A weaker and a stronger response to one task side by side, with the band and mark an examiner would give each for AO5 and AO6, and why.
