A table of 30 to 40 key quotations by character and theme, each with its speaker, place and a one-line note, for testing yourself.
Including 'trampled calmly over the child's body', 'like some damned Juggernaut', 'Satan's signature upon a face', 'with ape-like fury', 'the moment I choose, I can be rid of Mr. Hyde', 'man is not truly one, but truly two', 'my devil had been long caged, he came out roaring' and 'I bring the life of that unhappy Henry Jekyll to an end'.
Edexcel's novel question has two parts, and neither marks context: part (a) on the printed extract marks language, form and structure (AO2); part (b) on the novel elsewhere, from memory, marks the argument and its references (AO1), not language analysis. Use context only where it explains a reading, and say which part each worked paragraph and exam tip is for.
