Paper 2 reading questions
What you need to know
The 16-mark AO3 question: comparing the two writers' ideas and perspectives on a shared theme, covering the main ideas, the points of view and how they are presented.
Integrated comparison across both whole texts, with references balanced between them, and why writing about only one text in detail holds the mark down.
The worked example uses two linked texts about surviving extreme cold, both printed in the lesson: Text 1 from Ernest Shackleton's account of his Antarctic expedition, 'South' (1919), and Text 2 from Jack London's short story 'To Build a Fire' (1908).

Sentence starters for the question and a short checklist of the steps, for students aiming at Grade 4 and above.
