Paper 1 Questions 1 and 2: finding information
Paper 1 reading questions
What you need to know
The two short AO1 questions that open the paper: Question 1 (1 mark) asks for a word or phrase from a few given lines, and Question 2 (2 marks) asks for two things from a reprinted section, in your own words or quotations.
Keeping to the given lines and the question's focus, and answering briefly so that Section A's hour goes mostly to the longer questions.
The worked example uses an extract of about 650 words from Wilkie Collins's 19th-century story 'The Dream Woman', printed in the lesson.
Answers that would and would not earn the marks, and why.
