Paper 1 Question 9: the extended response
Paper 1 questions
What you need to know
The 20-mark extended response on a statement about media industries or audiences, answered with the Close Study Products: whether social media influencers with millions of followers are positive role models (2025), whether the video games industry is only concerned with profit (2024), and how far UK radio has changed since 1967 (2023).
How it is marked: knowledge of the framework and of contexts, and judgements and conclusions, in a sustained, coherent line of reasoning.
Planning in a few minutes: taking a position, weighing evidence from two or more Close Study Products, and reaching a conclusion.
A question set out as AQA sets it, with its wording and marks, and a model answer with the level and mark an examiner would give and why, beside a weaker answer and what would lift it.
Sentence starters and a short checklist of the steps, for students aiming at Grade 4 and above.

Back readings of class, gender and ethnicity with specific evidence from the products, as the mark schemes reward.
