Paper 2 writing
What you need to know
The 40-mark task: giving your own perspective on a statement linked to Section A's theme, in a set form (letter, article, speech, essay or leaflet) for a set audience.
How it is marked: 24 marks for content and organisation and 16 for technical accuracy, and how to plan in about 5 minutes and write in about 40.
A weaker and a stronger response to one task, side by side, with the level and mark an examiner would give each, and why.
The worked example uses two linked sources about working underground in coal mines: from George Orwell's 'The Road to Wigan Pier' (1937), and children's evidence to the 1842 Children's Employment Commission, both printed in the lesson.
