Paper 1 Question 5
Paper 1 writing
What you need to know
The 40-mark writing task: a description or the opening of a story, with a picture, scenario or written prompt linked to Section A's topic.
How it is marked: 24 marks for content and organisation and 16 for technical accuracy, and how to plan in about 5 minutes and write in about 40.
A weaker and a stronger response to one task, side by side, with the level and mark an examiner would give each, and why.
The worked example uses the opening of D. H. Lawrence's short story 'Odour of Chrysanthemums' (1914), printed in the lesson.
